iGoogle

Having a bit of fun setting up my iGoogle profile. This was easy to do! Now my google page is customised and stimulating. As a common starting point for much of what we do in class, having the extra "gadgets" on this page, provides a quick link to other online tools we can readily access (dictionary, news, calculator, time, etc. as well as some fun stuff). I just need to work out how to get diigo on my iGoogle page. TBA

DPL Buddy Found

A BIG thank you to Dorothy Vince for offering to become my DPL Buddy. It will be invaluable to be able to meet with Dorothy regularly and discuss our progress and also problem solve together. We met on the last day of Term 2 & have both gone off on holidays with a commitment to start work on our Beliefs Statement.

I hope all is on track Dorothy :)

How does a new theory of learning get off the ground?

Connectivisim started as my frustrations with existing learning theories rose. I started to see, in classrooms and online, that the theories of learning that I had been taught were no longer adequate for (or representative of) how people were learning. Instead of cognitivisim (and views of cognitive schema) or pure construction of knowledge, I noticed students were actually connecting - with each other and technology.

Student Free Day - DPL Intensive

Thank you to the Learning Technology Committee for running this Professional Development today. I think there was a really positive energy in K9 because people could see they were part of something bigger than themselves and feel that they are not on this path on their own.

It is always great to look at other people's portfolios but my learning style is one of collaboration. My task is to find myself a DPL buddy to help me engage in the learning theorists. Yes, I know I have to mention the word "connectivism" - but I was the same at uni ... unless I truly understood what I was submitting, it just wasn't learning for me.

BTW ... thanks Steve for asking me to do the little walkthru of Blackboard ... I hope it gave you a chance to help people one:one - loved the impromptu visit from the boss too :) Don't forget to send the pics for my portfolio.

DPL Virtual Classroom

I have logged on tonight to have a look around the new DPL Virtual Classroom (BlackBoard Course). Thank you Janelle for putting all this information in one repository & providing some links to other people's portfolios. I am looking forward to the learning journey this time ... and nailing the DPL!

What is Connectivism?

Is Connectivisim a learning theory or a pedagogical view?

As I begin another journey to gain my Digital Pedagogical License (http://education.qld.gov.au/smartclassrooms/pdframework/dp-licence.html), this is one question I would like to investigate as part of that journey.
