How does a new theory of learning get off the ground?

Connectivisim started as my frustrations with existing learning theories rose. I started to see, in classrooms and online, that the theories of learning that I had been taught were no longer adequate for (or representative of) how people were learning. Instead of cognitivisim (and views of cognitive schema) or pure construction of knowledge, I noticed students were actually connecting - with each other and technology.

  1. Came across this at http://www.icvet.tafensw.edu.au/resources/connectivism.htm
Connectivism was certainly not part of the learning theories presented to us at Uni (2003-05). I wonder why? The theory was too new, untested, unknown ...?

Doing the DPL will be the vehicle to consider this 'new' learning theory.
